Synthetic Cape Reed Thatch for Lapas and Lodges
In South Africa, the lapa is where friends gather around the fire beneath a deep thatched roof. As synthetic Cape reed lapa thatch, ONETHATCH REED (AGED) brings that same welcome to lapas, safari lodges, eco-resorts, tiki huts and themed pavilions. Its brown-grey Aged blend looks like Cape reed thatch that has mellowed for a few seasons in the sun, while strands of varied lengths keep the roof full and naturally irregular.
Each pre-assembled panel is made from PVC-free, 100% recyclable HDPE in our own solar-powered factory. It is fixed with four stainless roofing screws over a solid sub-deck, with eave, starter, field, and hip and ridge panels for every part of the roof: synthetic thatch roofing that a roofing contractor can install, with no thatching skills required. Prefer a warmer, golden roof? See ONETHATCH REED (SUNDRIED).
Highlights of ONETHATCH REED (AGED)

Yes. ONETHATCH REED (AGED) recreates the look of a traditional Cape reed lapa and the African reed thatch of safari lodges. For lapas with a braai or fireplace, specify the FR version, rated Class A to ASTM E108, and have the designer address fire clearances and local building requirements.
Synthetic Cape reed gives you the same look with far less upkeep. Natural reed roofs are beautiful but demanding, with regular maintenance, fire-retardant treatment and periodic re-thatching to keep up. ONETHATCH REED keeps the look of classic African thatch in panels that do not rot, skip the re-thatching cycle and carry a 20-year limited warranty.
It is a 20-year limited warranty against UV degradation and fading, for FR and NFR versions alike. Register your roof on our thatch warranty page, and ask us for the full warranty terms.
