Misu Gaki represents the most commonly found luxurious bamboo privacy screen in Japan. This bamboo fence is installed in the homes of the nobles in the Kanto region. The bamboo fencing panels are constructed by placing horizontal 1-inch thin bamboo poles and inserting them into the grooves of the fence’s posts. Vertical support bamboo poles are attached to the bottom batten, giving the bamboo fence the appearance of a bamboo privacy screen. The thin bamboo pole does not hold up well in the rain and will decay and discolor very quickly, but the simple elegance makes it still popular.
