Synthetic Nipa Thatch, Moulded From Real Palm Leaves
For generations, low, neat and beautifully layered nipa palm roofs have sheltered homes and pavilions across the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. ONETHATCH PALM (NIPA) keeps that look and leaves the re-thatching behind. Each panel is moulded from casts of real palm leaves in UV-stabilised high-density polyethylene (HDPE), with the colour compounded through the material, so your nipa thatch keeps its natural texture and warm tones through sun, salt air and tropical rain.
These palm thatch panels suit resort villas, overwater bungalows, beach bars, palapas and garden pavilions, on gable, hip, pavilion and valley roofs as well as open batten frames. The flexible moulded binder strip follows curved and pitched roof forms, and matching ridge and hip panels give every roof a clean, finished crown.
Highlights of ONETHATCH PALM (NIPA)
- Wind: no loss of attachment at 160 mph (260 km/h) in ASTM D3161 testing at PRI Construction Materials Technologies (report 2756T0002.1). This is a laboratory result, not a site design wind speed.
- Wind-driven rain: passed the Florida TAS 100 test (PRI report 2756T0003.1).
- No solid deck or membrane needed when installed to specification: the panels screw straight onto open battens.
- Fire: the FR version is rated Class A to ASTM E108 (Intertek report 220927005SHF-001); the standard NFR version carries no fire rating.
- Weathering: passed 5,000 hours of ASTM G155 accelerated weathering at Micom Laboratories, Canada (report MI-25-17428-1), with no significant colour change.
- Low maintenance: HDPE does not rot, and NIPA resists mould growth in ASTM G21 testing (Intertek).
- 20-year limited warranty on FR and NFR versions.
Season after season, this synthetic thatch roofing gives guests the warmth of a traditional thatched roof, from luxury resorts in the Maldives to island hideaways across Southeast Asia.

A minimum of 18° (about 4:12). Lay the courses at 220 mm (9 in) spacing, about 4.9 panels per m², and order around 10% extra for cutting. Installation guidelines come with every order, and our engineer can calculate quantities from your roof drawing.
No. Installed to specification, NIPA needs no solid deck or membrane, so it goes straight onto an open batten frame and the underside stays light and airy, just like a natural palapa. It has also passed the Florida TAS 100 wind-driven rain test (PRI report 2756T0003.1). Where the room below must stay completely dry, ask us for the installation guidelines for your roof build-up.
In ASTM D3161 testing at PRI, ONETHATCH PALM (NIPA) showed no loss of attachment at 160 mph (260 km/h), fixed with stainless roofing screws to ONETHATCH specifications. That is a laboratory result, not a site design wind speed, so the roof frame, batten spacing and fixings must be designed for the wind loads at your site.
Only the FR version is. The FR version of ONETHATCH PALM (NIPA) is rated Class A to ASTM E108 (Intertek report 220927005SHF-001); the standard NFR version carries no fire rating. Specify FR for restaurants, bars, hotels and any project where the building code or insurer asks for a fire-rated roof covering.
Two: Sundried and Aged, both in FR and NFR versions. The colour is compounded through the HDPE rather than painted on. Samples are free, and you only pay shipping, so you can compare both finishes in your own light.
ONETHATCH PALM is produced in under 7 days for 3,000 m², and we hold NIPA stock in the USA, China, Panama, Thailand and India. We make it in our own ISO 9001 certified factory in Xiamen, China, and ship to more than 80 countries, from the Maldives to the Caribbean.
