Tokusa-Gaki bamboo fence: a tall vertical screen
Note: please refer to the Additional information tab for bamboo fence specifications.
Picture a wall of upright bamboo: poles of irregular diameters standing shoulder to shoulder, thick beside slim, every node and grain line catching the light. The ONETHATCH® Bamboo Fence (Tokusa-Gaki) brings that calm, architectural rhythm to villa boundaries, spa gardens, pool terraces and resort walkways, and because the poles stand close together it makes a natural bamboo privacy fence.
Where the style comes from. Tokusa-Gaki (木賊垣) takes its name from tokusa, the horsetail or scouring rush grown in Japanese gardens: its tight vertical rows of bamboo echo the plant’s slim, jointed stems.
How we build it. Our Tokusa-Gaki panels use faux bamboo poles of irregular diameters, not one fixed diameter per panel, and that variety is what gives the fence its natural Tokusa look. Every pole is molded from real bamboo in ASA, a weather-resistant outdoor resin, and colored with mineral (inorganic) pigments, which resist sun-fading far better than ordinary dyes. The ONETHATCH synthetic bamboo fence panels are mounted on powder-coated aluminum frames and fixed to wood-grain aluminum posts with our own screwless connectors, so the faux bamboo poles stay straight and true. Unlike natural bamboo fencing, these artificial bamboo fencing panels are made to resist splitting, rot and termites, and the fencing is fully recyclable.
Sized for your boundary. A standard Tokusa-Gaki panel stands approximately 1900 mm high and 1800 mm wide, the simplest way to line a boundary; send us your layout and we can customize the panels to fit it.
Why choose ONETHATCH® artificial bamboo fencing?
- Tested color: passed 5,000 hours of ASTM G155 accelerated weathering with no significant color change (Micom Laboratories, Canada).
- Proven by the sea: ONETHATCH bamboo fencing at Banyan Tree Maldives (Kenninji-Gaki style), made in the same synthetic bamboo, had been in use for six years with no visible color change as of 2026.
- Sundried as standard: custom colors are available for commercial projects.
- Fire option: an ASTM E84 Class A fire-retardant version is available to order.
- Simple assembly: pre-engineered panels and posts join with screwless connectors, so DIY bamboo fence installation is straightforward.
- 20-year limited warranty on the panels and the aluminum frame, from our own ISO 9001-certified plant (certified since 2010).
Whether you are planning a privacy screen, a decorative backyard screen or a tropical perimeter wall, Tokusa-Gaki gives you a natural-looking faux bamboo fence that keeps its character. Tokusa-Gaki belongs to our Signature Privacy collection, with the close-set Kenninji-Gaki and the horizontal Katsura-Gaki bamboo fence. Looking for other bamboo fencing styles? Tokusa-Gaki Fence FAQ
Tokusa-Gaki is a tall Japanese bamboo privacy fence of thick bamboo set in tight vertical rows. The name comes from tokusa, the horsetail plant, whose upright stems the rows resemble; traditional versions use split bamboo, while ONETHATCH makes it with synthetic bamboo poles of irregular diameters, not one fixed size per panel, on aluminum frames, for the natural Tokusa look in gardens, villas and resorts.
Yes: the poles stand close together in vertical rows, so it screens views much like a bamboo wall. It suits villa boundaries, spa gardens, pool terraces and garden partitions. For a lighter look with slimmer poles, see Shimizu-Gaki.
It is made to hold its color: the poles are colored with mineral pigments, and our synthetic bamboo passed 5,000 hours under a lab lamp that recreates sunlight (ASTM G155 accelerated weathering) with no significant color change (Micom Laboratories, Canada). That matters on a tall screen that faces the sun all day. In the field, ONETHATCH bamboo fencing at Banyan Tree Maldives (Kenninji-Gaki style), made in the same synthetic bamboo, had been in use for six years with no visible color change as of 2026.
The standard synthetic bamboo fence is not fire-rated; an ASTM E84 Class A fire-retardant version is available to order. Tell us your project’s fire requirements when you ask for a quote and we will specify the right version.
