Aluminum bamboo is an aluminum tube finished with the raised nodes and grain of real bamboo. It brings the warmth of natural cane to places where natural cane struggles: fire-conscious hotel interiors, long ceiling runs, tight curves and busy public spaces. The main aluminum bamboo applications are baffle ceilings, screens, curved features, lighting and woven pavilions. ONETHATCH® makes it in four forms:
- round poles from Ø 20 to 100 mm;
- baffle ceiling tubes from Ø 25 to 90 mm;
- flexible weaving strips;
- prefabricated woven panels.
Standard-coated round poles are in stock, everything else is made to order, and curves are bent in-house to your drawing.
What aluminum bamboo is, and what it is not
Aluminum bamboo is metal throughout. It is not a bamboo-and-aluminum composite, and it is not our synthetic bamboo, which is molded in ASA resin from casts of real bamboo and belongs to a separate product line. The bamboo character comes from raised three-dimensional nodes formed in the tube and a bamboo-textured coating that adds the grain.
- Fire: aluminum is non-combustible, and ONETHATCH® aluminum bamboo complies with ASTM E84 Class A.
- Durability: it will not rot, split or attract insects, its coating is UV-resistant, and it never needs the yearly sealing that natural bamboo does.
- Warranty: the standard coating carries a 6-year warranty, and a premium coating for commercial projects carries a 10-year warranty.
1. Baffle ceilings for hotels and restaurants
An aluminum bamboo ceiling is a suspended baffle ceiling that gives a lobby, restaurant or spa a calm, natural rhythm overhead.
The system has three parts:
- Tubes: Ø 25 to 90 mm, with a 0.7 to 1.2 mm wall.
- Hangers: 5 mm threaded rods on galvanized steel baffle brackets, fixed with bolts, screws and expansion screws.
- Finish: end caps close each tube.
Spacing, direction and any curves are planned from your ceiling layout, so the same system can run straight, fan out or follow a curved edge.
2. Screens and room dividers
Spaced vertical poles, such as the 80 mm rods behind a hotel reception, divide a space without closing it. They filter views and light while letting air flow through. Round poles come in eight standard diameters, Ø 20 to 100 mm, with a 1.0 or 1.2 mm wall and any length up to 6,000 mm (about 20 ft). That makes it easy to scale the screen to the room.
3. Curves, arches and sculptural features
This is where aluminum leaves natural cane behind. Our in-house rolling machine bends and rolls aluminum bamboo poles to the radius on your drawing, and every formed tube is checked for quality and appearance. Curved ceiling edges, arches, wrapped columns and flowing feature walls keep the same bamboo detail from end to end.
4. Lighting features
Bamboo-look tubes make striking light features, from pendant clusters to laser-cut bamboo pole lighting that throws patterned light across a wall. Unlike natural cane, the tube is non-combustible aluminum.
5. Woven canopies and pavilions
Flexible aluminum bamboo weaving strips can be bent and woven like natural cane into canopies, pavilions, ceilings and sculptures. Beyond loose strips, ONETHATCH® custom-manufactures prefabricated woven panels, with the weave, panel size, finish and fixings planned from your drawings. Supporting structures are designed for each project.
6. Wall cladding and feature walls
Set side by side, aluminum bamboo poles turn a lobby wall, bar back or corridor into a feature with real depth. The raised nodes catch light and shadow along the whole run.
Standard sizes at a glance
| Form | Sizes |
|---|---|
| Round poles | Ø 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 100 mm; wall 1.0 or 1.2 mm; up to 6,000 mm (about 20 ft) |
| Baffle ceiling tubes | Ø 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 mm; wall 0.7 to 1.2 mm |
| Weaving strips | 8, 10, 15 and 20 mm wide |
| Shaping | Straight, or bent and rolled in-house to any shape on your drawing; custom profiles extruded to order |
Aluminum, natural or synthetic bamboo?
| Aluminum bamboo | Synthetic bamboo (ASA) | Natural bamboo | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Material | Aluminum tube, VOC-free and UV-resistant bamboo-textured coating | ASA resin, molded from casts of real bamboo | Plant material |
| Fire | Non-combustible; complies with ASTM E84 Class A | Stock not fire-rated; fire-retardant version to order | Combustible |
| Shaping | Bent and rolled in-house to your drawing | Molded profiles: poles, slats, panels and fence panels | Natural shapes; sizes vary from pole to pole |
| Ideal for | Ceilings, curves, fire-conscious interiors | Outdoor screens, fencing, wall panels | Traditional builds that call for the natural material |
| Warranty | 6 years on the standard coating; 10 years on the premium coating (for commercial projects) | 20-year limited warranty | – |
| Care | No staining or sealing | Virtually maintenance-free | Regular sealing; can crack, rot and attract insects |
For long outdoor screen runs, compare our synthetic bamboo poles in weather-resistant ASA, which carry a 20-year limited warranty. Choose aluminum when the design calls for a non-combustible material, tight bends or long ceiling runs. The two can be combined on one project.
Planning your project
- Structure: aluminum bamboo is a decorative finish, and no load ratings are published. Supports, connections and any structural use are designed and confirmed by the project’s engineer.
- Drawings: send plans or sketches with diameters, lengths and bend radii, and we will confirm the profile and wall thickness.
- Stock: standard-coated round poles are in stock; ceiling tubes, bends, custom profiles and the premium coating are made to order.
- Finishes: choose a standard finish, or ask about custom colors for commercial projects.
- Samples: samples are free, so you can check the color, nodes and texture first.
FAQ
What is aluminum bamboo used for?
Aluminum bamboo is used for baffle ceilings, screens and room dividers, curved features, lighting and woven canopies or pavilions. It is chosen where a design needs the look of bamboo with a non-combustible material, long straight runs or bends.
Is aluminum bamboo non-combustible?
Yes. Aluminum is non-combustible, and ONETHATCH® aluminum bamboo complies with ASTM E84 Class A. Tell us your project’s fire requirements when you ask for a quote, and we will share the documentation.
Can aluminum bamboo be bent?
Yes. We bend and roll it in-house to the radius on your drawing, and every formed tube is checked for quality and appearance.
