What is artificial bamboo made of?

ONETHATCH artificial bamboo is made of ASA, a rigid, weather-resistant outdoor resin, molded from real bamboo canes. ASA belongs to the family of plastics trusted for automotive exterior trim, because it keeps its color under strong sun. Our poles, slats, panels and fencing contain no PVC, and our woven bamboo matting is handwoven from HDPE strands.

In a garden center, “artificial bamboo” often means a potted plant with silk leaves. Ours is an architectural material: poles, slats, panels and fencing made to dress real buildings, from resort lobbies to beach bars.

How ONETHATCH artificial bamboo is made

Three steps give every piece its natural character:

1. Molded from real bamboo. Our molds are taken from natural canes, so each node, ridge and line of grain carries into the finished pole.
2. Colored all the way through. The base color is mixed into the resin itself with mineral pigments, the same kind of color that keeps terracotta roofs warm under the tropical sun. The color belongs to the material, not to a surface coat.
3. Finished by hand. On selected colors, our artisans brush a subtle weathering texture over the molded-in color, for the gentle variation of cane that has aged in the open air.

Can artificial bamboo be used outdoors?

Yes. ONETHATCH poles, panels and fencing are made of ASA, an outdoor resin, and came through 5,000 hours of accelerated weathering with no significant color change. They are as much at home on a pool deck or garden terrace as in a lobby.

Does artificial bamboo fade in the sun?

It is made not to. The color is mineral pigment molded through the resin rather than a painted surface, and it is backed by our 20-year limited warranty.

Is artificial bamboo fire resistant?

Only the fire-retardant version is rated. Standard stock is not fire-rated; an ASTM E84 Class A fire-retardant version of the poles, panels and fencing is made to order for hotels, restaurants and public spaces.

Can artificial bamboo poles carry weight?

No. Our poles are decorative and must not be used as load-bearing posts. Fix them over a structural frame to dress columns, screens and bar fronts.

How do I clean artificial bamboo?

An occasional rinse with water and mild soap keeps it fresh. It needs no sealing, staining or pest treatment.
