When you want the tropical Tahitian or African style of thatch roofing without the re-thatching and treatments, ONETHATCH has the answer: synthetic thatch roofing materials. We offer a collection of synthetic thatches. They range from tropical palm leaf thatching for a small backyard umbrella to African thick reed thatching styles for your guests’ elegant outdoor dining occasion.
Our engineered synthetic thatch roofing materials are crafted from UV-stabilised, PVC-free HDPE and designed for strong coastal sun, rain and wind. And for commercial tropical decor, ONETHATCH goes well beyond the roof: synthetic bamboo fencing, poles, wall panels, woven matting, pelupuh shingles and bamboo torches, each made to look natural and to work hard. This guide shows which material suits which use.

Our Synthetic Thatch Panels: PALM, REED and STRAW
Whether you’re dreaming of the dense looks of African reed thatch or the slightly shaggy look of Mexican palm-styled thatch, we’ve got you covered. We’re delighted to offer three families of synthetic thatch roofing materials:
- ONETHATCH REED mimics the look of African Cape reed and European water reed thatch. Designed to be installed in layers, it features vivid, multicolored artificial reeds so that your thatch roofing reflects a range of natural hues. It installs over a solid, waterproofed sub-deck at 200 mm and comes with a 20-year limited warranty.
- ONETHATCH PALM offers the fun, shaggy tropical thatching look that so many people dream of when they picture a thatched roof tiki hut. It’s available in three styles and two colors, Sundried and Aged. You can select FAN, NIPA or RAINCAPE palm, and each style will provide you with a different underside look. All are easy to install on open battens, shed rain without a solid sub-deck when installed to specification, and come with a 20-year limited warranty.
ONETHATCH STRAW brings the softer texture of island straw roofs in three styles, BALI, CARIBBEAN and TAHITIAN. Our Bali straw thatch and its sister styles install over a solid, waterproofed sub-deck, for a relaxed, rustic roofline.
How Long Does Synthetic Thatch Last?
Wondering about the lifespan of synthetic thatch roofing materials? Our synthetic thatch shingles create a lasting tropical setting, backed by a 20-year limited warranty. All these synthetic tiki hut roofing products have the look and feeling of natural thatch without re-thatching, sealing or treatments. An occasional rinse keeps them looking amazing. Our PALM (NIPA) panels passed 5,000 hours of ASTM G155 accelerated weathering at Micom Laboratories (Canada) with no significant colour change, and HDPE gives pests nothing to feed on. For venues that need a fire rating, choose the FR version: FR PALM, REED and STRAW panels are rated Class A to ASTM E108, tested by Intertek. Installation is simple, and the thatch panels can be applied to a variety of structures.
Synthetic Bamboo and Other Tropical Decor Materials
If you love the look of a tropical or south pacific vacation feeling, there’s no reason to stop with just your thatching. ONETHATCH offers a series of synthetic bamboo product lines to help you decorate your property.
- ONETHATCH BAMBOO FENCING recreates ten traditional Japanese bamboo fencing styles, from Kenninji-Gaki and Misu-Gaki to Katsura-Gaki and Ryoanji-Gaki. Each panel pairs ASA bamboo with a powder-coated aluminum frame; the standard panel is about 1900 mm high × 1800 mm wide in Sundried and is customised to your layout, ideal for pool and spa enclosures, privacy screens and garden theming. Our outdoor bamboo fences will help you maintain bamboo fencing beauty for many years. It comes with a 20-year limited warranty.
- ONETHATCH BAMBOO TORCHES for Outdoor Lighting are reusable for years to come for all your memorable outdoor occasions. From luau parties to Memorial Day and Independence Day celebrations, these lovely garden torches light paths, patios and beach clubs with a warm flame, using citronella or standard tiki-torch oil (sold separately). Each 1.5 m (60 in) torch has a recycled-resin body moulded with bamboo nodes and a wide-mouth, powder-coated metal canister for easy filling, and carries a 3-year limited warranty.
- ONETHATCH BAMBOO POLE is created using molds taken from natural bamboo sticks directly. This unique production method offers a natural-looking and long-lasting artificial bamboo stick. They are decorative rather than load-bearing; for a structural post, a metal tube goes inside the pole. Threaded poles join in 508 mm (20-inch) sections, one-length poles reach up to 6 m, and 40, 50 and 75 mm diameters are stocked in Sundried, so our bamboo poles suit everything from tiki-bar posts to theme-park facades.
Bamboo Wall Panels and Cladding
For feature walls, ceilings, wainscoting and bar or counter fronts, our bamboo wall panels bring the rhythm of real bamboo, moulded in ASA resin from the real thing. Choose half-round, half-round interlock or slat profiles for indoor and outdoor spaces; like all our synthetic bamboo, they are decorative rather than structural.
Woven Mat for Ceilings, Walls and Bar Fronts
Our Woven Mat wraps ceilings, walls, bar fronts and vertical furniture faces in a warm, woven texture, indoors and in covered outdoor areas. It is HDPE synthetic wicker with 13 mm strands, supplied in 1.22 × 2.44 m sheets in Teak and Carbonized, glued to a backing board and stapled. An FR version, rated Class A to ASTM E84 and passing NFPA 286, is available to order.
Bamboo Pelupuh Roofing Shingles
For a crisp, straight-pitched roof with the hand-split look of Indonesian pelupuh, our bamboo pelupuh shingles are moulded in ASA from real hand-flattened bamboo and fixed over a solid deck with a waterproof membrane. They also make striking feature walls at resort entrances and restaurants.
How Long Does Artificial Bamboo Last?
Over the years, many clients have asked us to develop synthetic bamboo products as an alternative to natural materials. Their resorts and themed parks were installed with natural bamboo fences and bamboo screens over the whole property. But, unfortunately, within a few seasons the natural cane began to fade, discolour and grow mould. Clients were left with a constant cycle of cleaning, sealing and replacing these natural bamboo products.
That’s why we create artificial bamboo product lines. Our synthetic bamboo poles, panels and fencing are moulded in ASA, a weather-resistant outdoor resin (our Woven Mat is HDPE), and need no sealing, staining or pest treatment, just an occasional rinse with water and mild soap to keep them looking fresh. Faux bamboo poles give pests nothing to feed on, and our synthetic bamboo passed 5,000 hours of ASTM G155 accelerated weathering at Micom Laboratories (Canada) with no significant colour change. Standard stock is not fire-rated; an FR version of the poles and panels is available to order, rated Class A to ASTM E84. Wondering how long synthetic bamboo can last? Compared to natural bamboo products, our synthetic bamboo alternatives are built for the long run, sparing clients the endless cycle of repairs and replacements. Our synthetic thatch, synthetic bamboo poles and panels, bamboo fencing and Woven Mat come with a 20-year limited warranty.
Aluminum Bamboo: a Separate Metal Line
Where a project calls for a non-combustible material, our aluminum bamboo is a separate line: aluminum tubes finished with the raised nodes and grain of real bamboo, for ceilings, cladding, screens and woven pavilions. Its standard coating carries a 6-year coating warranty.
